"The Banias"Banias is a panoramic image of a waterfall in the Banias River in the Golan Heights. Beginning at the foot of Mount Hermon, the waters of the Banias spring rush with great force through a canyon-like channel, losing 190 meters in altitude over the course of three and a half kilometers and forming the Banias waterfall, one of the most beautiful in Israel. The Jordan River arises from this spring and two others at the base of Mount Hermon. In the first Century B.C.E. Herod built a white marble temple there known as Panias; its ruins remain visible to this day.
